Group members with some of our rescued bunnies. September 2010

Our Claws'n'Paws Hartlepool KIDS CLUB .

Educating our children and young people as to how they can get involved in looking after small birds and animals is what KIDS CLUB is all about. Covering Ages 10 to 17 they get hands on experience in learning how to look after rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese, guinea pigs, ferrets and a whole variety of small domestic AND wild birds in our care and how to feed and care for them properly. In the 'wild' department we've had, foxes, Canada and greylag geese, finches, parrots, and even rare species like the odd Avocet or Cormorant that come our way via our Bird & Animal Rescue Team. We also had Seagulls, Crows, Pheasants and Quail through our doors.

The young people can get to know one or two of our birds or animals in care as if they were their own, and maybe provide them a home through our re-homing or 'buddies' schemes.

Some KIDS CLUmembers can also sponsor their furry friends once they have the know how. Our Shelter Site Manager is on-site to help and advise.

If small children want to get involved in animal welfare or volunteer work through their local school, college or youth or residents group, this is a good way to get them started and see if they like it !

We continuously seek funding to enable children and their accompanying parents to get involved and we hold fund raising events and outings for KIDS CLUB members and through our  ARK scheme (Animal Rescue Kids). Occasional various Ecological and Environmental Projects also run from time to time under these schemes but only as and when funds permit.

A minimum donation of  £1.00 per child per visit is asked for, to cover consumable costs (times are variable and at the site-managers discretion)AND all children and Young people from 10 yrs up to age 17yrs, MUST have parental consent to join. Children & young people can attend in small managable groups from other groups by arrangement and other youth organisations provided there is *qualified, suitable and appropriate Adult Supervision accompanying them or a Parent/Guardian with each child,  but again arrangements must be made in advance by phoning 07838 159413  or 07931 656555.

*All Our Site STAFF are CRB Checked and ALL Adult supervisors in charge of groups, and volunteers engaged on any of our sites or projects MUST also to be CRB Checked.

For FULL details: All parents/guardians/group leaders should attend for the first time with their children/ young people to get forms etc signed up at first visit on-site (Prior Bookings MUST still to be made in advance) Parents/Guardians are expected to stay with their children for the first session to get to know the set up and ask any questions. Places are limited for these popular occasional projects. The sessions are also seasonal and can be cancelled in bad weather conditions at short notice. KIDS CLUand  ARK scheme projects are occasional and not continuous projects. Parents/Guardians and Groups are encouraged to come along to our members' Community Advisory Group (CAG) Meetings which take place approx every 2 months throughout the year.
